Share the Warmth Program Joins Give Hastings Day

The program that helps Hastings Utility Department customers who may be unable to afford their utility bill during the colder months, has joined Give Hastings Day in 2026. Give Hastings Day, the community-wide fundraising event organized by the Hastings Community Foundation to support local nonprofits, is May 7 – but early giving began Wednesday, April 22.

Share The Warmth is a long-time partnership coordinated by the Salvation Army with partner agencies Catholic Social Services and Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska. It helps pay utility bills for Hastings Utilities customers in need from Dec. 1 to April 30.

While the funds collected through this program are dispersed to those in need during this time of year, anyone can contribute to Share the Warmth at any time during the year – including during Give Hastings Day.

Share the Warmth was specifically tailored to assist Hastings Utilities customers who meet the following criteria:
• Individuals 60 years of age or older
• Individuals with disabilities
• Anyone experiencing unusual needs

To donate to Share the Warmth – or any other participating nonprofit organization – during Give Hastings Day, go to givehastings.org. Contributions can also be given in person at the Hastings Community Foundation’s office at 620 W. Second St. Suite #102 or on May 7 at Give Hastings Day headquarters, The Lark at 809 W. Second St.

Hastings Utilities customers wishing to support Share the Warmth can contribute year-round by completing the form at www.cityofhastings.org/share-the-warmthand indicate a specific contribution to be added to their bill each month.

If you need funds to assist you with your utility bill, please contact the Salvation Army directly at (402) 463-0529.
