Shelton Man Arrested after Standoff

The Shelton Police Department, assisted by the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, are investigating the circumstances surrounding a residential trespassing incident in Shelton, NE. At approximately 11;15 AM on September 18, 2025 law enforcement was called to respond to an unwanted subject / trespasser that was reported at a residence in the 500 block of F Street in Shelton, NE. At the time of the incident, the residence was unoccupied.
When officers responded, they discovered an adult male individual had entered the residence. The subject was known to law enforcement and had an active misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. When advised he was under arrest, the subject locked the doors and refused to leave. Verbal efforts to negotiate his removal were unsuccessful. Officers were permitted access to the home by the homeowner. The intruder remained uncooperative and barricaded in a bedroom. The Kearney / Buffalo County Emergency Service Unit (ESU) was called to respond. Prior to their arrival, the subject was apprehended inside the residence. The suspect resisted arrest, during which he received dog bites from a Police Service Dog. The suspect was identified as 41 year old Giovanni Morales of Shelton. He was arrested and jailed on charges of a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant, trespassing, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest.
Assisting the Shelton Police Department at the scene were members of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Shelton Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Unit.
