Simmons Tosses No-No, Northwest Blanks St Cecilia 5-0
(Grand Island, NE) - Graclyn Simmons didn't allow a single hit as Northwest defeated Saint Cecilia Bluehawks 5-0 on Tuesday at Veterans Field Softball Complex. To get the final out, Simmons struck out Faith Kucera to end the night with 11 strikeouts on 98 pitches in the seven-inning affair.
The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Simmons grounded out, and Northwest scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
Northwest added one run in the third after Simmons singled to center field.
Becca Dinkelman homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Northwest.
Emerson Kissinger took the loss for Saint Cecilia. The righty went six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out six and walking two.
Simmons and Dinkelman were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Northwest. Abby Dinkelman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Northwest in hits.
Northwest (2-1) will next play in the annual Lincoln Public Schools Invite on Friday, August 28th.
