South Street will close for work on Hastings Southeast Project

March 30, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting, on April 6, South Street will be closed from Elm Avenue to Cedar Avenue, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

This work is part of the Hastings Southeast project. The work in this area is being moved up in the phasing to facilitate better access to local businesses in later phases of the project during the 2026 construction year. This work will take approximately 4 weeks to complete and will be opened as soon as work is completed in the area. Work includes storm sewer and concrete pavement.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
