St Cecilia Nips Northwest 4-3 In 8 Innings

(Hastings, NE) - In a game that took a bit for the scoring to come around, it ended up going to an extra inning on Tuesday night, as St Cecilia would defeat Northwest 4-3.
After the first three innings were scoreless, Northwest would get three runs in the top of the fourth inning. A single and stolen base by Abby Dinkelman would be followed by an RBI double by Libby Loman that would give the Vikings a 1-0 advantage. Northwest would then get two more runs with two outs from center fielder Sadie Cemper, smacking a 2 RBI double. St Cecilia would answer with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth by Maddison Bauer to make it 3-1 Northwest through four innings.
St Cecila would then scratch around a run in the fifth and the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Northwest in the top of the 7th would get Laiken Dorsey on first base with a single, then advancing to second on a wild pitch, but would be stranded as three outs would follow. The Vikings would hold St Cecilia in the bottom of the 7th to force the 8th. In the extra inning, an automatic runner is placed at 2nd base with no outs. Northwest would lay down a sacrifice bunt by Jolie O'Hara to advance Madi Cole over to third base. Northwest, unfortunately, would come up empty again, followed by a strikeout to Abby Dinkleman and a flyout by Libby Loman.
St Cecilia would then get their turn in the bottom of the 8th, bunting over the runner from 2nd. Bringing to the plate Paisley Mangers, who would fly out to center field, bringing in the game-tying run for the Hawkettes to win the game 4-3.
St Cecilia moves to 4-0 on the season and will next be in action on Thursday, August 28th, hosting Central City. Northwest will be on the road Friday, August 29th, traveling to the LPS Invite, taking on Papillion La Vista, Lincoln Southeast, and Pius X.
