St. Paul Breaks School Record in Rout of Superior

The Opening round of the C2-9 Sub-District Basketball team saw lots of fireworks for the St. Paul Wildcat Basketball team looking to keep their season alive as the WIldcats drew the Superior Wildcats.

St. Paul got off to a hot start scoring the games first 12 points to take a 12-0 lead. Superior's lone bucket of the first half came late in the first quarter. Zaya Lewis rounded out the scoring in the first frame with a free throw for a 13-2 lead at the end of 1 quarter. The Wildcats pitched a shutout in the 2nd taking a 14-0 second quarter to lead 27-2 at the half. 

St. Paul picked up right where they left off from Halftime, outscoring Superior 17-2 in the 3rd to take a 44-4 lead into the 4th quarter. Superior opened the final frame with a 3 from the right corner to make it 44-7 the Cats picked answered back with a 3 from freshman Addi Platek. The Cats' defense gave up one more bucket in the quarter but still outscored the Wildcats of Superior 7-5 en route to winning the contest 51-9.

The 9 points given up by St. Paul breaks a record set on the same gym floor back in 2020-21 as St. Paul defeated Sandy Creek on the road 50-10.

With the win St. Paul improves to 8-15 suprassing their win record from last year where they finished with 7 wins. Next up for St. Paul will be a familiar face in the Centura Centurians. Centura has already defeated St. Paul twice this year. Coverage begins at 6:35 on Country 96.

On the otherside of the bracket, Maxwell eliminated Gibbon 76-34. Maxwell will play host Sandy Creek at 5pm tomorrow before the St. Paul/Centura contest
