St Paul Softball Season Come To An End
(Wayne, NE) - St. Paulcouldn't keep up with Wayne and fell 14-6 on Monday in the C-9 Sub District tournament as the Wildcats saw their season come to an end with a record of 6-15.
St. Paul got on the board in the top of the first inning after Averie Patrick walked, and St. Paul scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Wayne tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Sidney Nelson, and a walk by Alyssa Bargholz.
A solo home run to center field by Courtney Roeber gave Wayne the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second.
Wayne scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Roeber drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored three runs, and Kinnley McGuire doubled, scoring one run.
Wayne scored five runs on one hit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lilly Johnson drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored three runs, and Ava Petersen induced Ayvree Abler to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
McGuire earned the win for Wayne. The righty allowed three hits and six runs (two earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking seven. Brooklyn Heater took the loss for St. Paul Varsity Wildcats. The starting pitcher went three innings, allowing 12 runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out one and walking six.
Petersen went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. St. Paul had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Patrick, Kyndel Sack, and Kaia Douthit led the team with two walks each. Sack stole two bases.
Wayne collected 10 hits in the game. Anna Dutcher, the number nine hitter for Wayne, led the way with two runs batted in. Reagan McManigal and McGuire each collected three hits for Wayne. Wayne worked the count all day, amassing six walks.
