St. Paul Softball snags road victory vs Polk County.
An 8 day layoff or a trip to Osceola didn't hinder the St. Paul Softball team Tuesday night as they pick up their 3rd win of the year with an 8-0 victory over the Polk County Slammers.
The Cats initially were supposed to play Milford on Thursday but Mother Nature and a downpour in Howard County prevented that from happening so the Varsity Cats had to wait a little longer to get their bats swinging again after a tough loss to GICC the Monday before.
The scoring started in the 3rd for the Cats as they would pickup 2 runs in the frame as Kami Sack singled before coming home on a hit turned error by Polk County's second baseman on a Charlee Wegner at bat to make it 1-0. Kyndel Sack came in to courtesy run for Wegner stole 3rd before senior Brooke Peetz tacked on a sac fly bringing home sack to make it 2-0.
The scoring would stay 2-0 for two more innings as the Cats erupted for 5 runs in the 5th all with 2 outs on the scoreboard. The Cats would add one more insurance run in the 7th as Addy Wegner tripled to lead off the 7th and would score on the next at bat from Audra Dugan on a fielders choice.
The Cats improve to 3-3 on the season. Charlee Wegner gets the win fresh off her school record 18 strikeout performance against GICC last Monday. Chuck on the day finished allowing just 1 hit, striking out 7 while walking 2 all in under 100 pitches.
Next action for St. Paul will be Thursday 9/5 in Cairo in a triangular against Central City and CCV. The Cats will look for some early season retribution against the Bison as CC ended St. Paul's year in Subdistricts a season ago.
