Standing Bear Hangs On To Defeat Grand Island, 5-4

(Lincoln, NE) - Sam Schroeder collected three hits in three at-bats, but Grand Island lost to Standing Bear 5-4 on Tuesday. Schroeder hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

Grand Island fought back after falling down by four runs in the fourth inning. The comeback fell just short, though. The Islanders closed the gap by scoring on a home run and a solo home run.

Standing Bear Varsity Grizzlies got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Bullock walked, and Mroz was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Grand Island scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Schroeder.

The Islanders scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Cushing on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.

Von Seggern earned the win for Standing Bear. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Sack took the loss for Grand Island. The pitcher went four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking two.

Nelson collected two hits for Grand Island in two at-bats.

Standing Bear Varsity Grizzlies collected nine hits in the game. Froeschl went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Foster went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Grizzlies in hits.

Grand Island (6-4) welcomes Norfolk on Thursday for their next game.

The Islanders picked up two wins on Monday at North Platte. Winning game one 10-9 and claiming game two 21-1.
