Train Derails Near Cairo

Cleanup continues from a train derailment in the region today.  In a statement, Burlington Northern Santa Fe confirms that a train carrying coal derailed near Cairo, NE at approximately 4:45 a.m. CST.  There are no injuries and the cause is under investigation.  BNSF personnel are on site and working as quickly and safely as possible to clear the incident. A total of 57 cars derailed. The derailment is currently blocking all crossings from High Street to 110th road near Cairo. Hall County Emergency Management representatives are also on scene to assist in the investigation.
