Troopers on Patrol for End of Summer Travel Season

Nebraska State Patrol

September 3, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — The summer travel season is coming to an end and Nebraska State Troopers will be on patrol to help keep travelers safe during Labor Day Weekend.

“The summer has been busy with community events, vacations, road trips, and more,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Labor Day Weekend will keep our troopers busy, from the Husker game on Saturday to the State Fair in Grand Island, and on roads across Nebraska. We encourage all drivers to drive safely and drive sober.”

Since Memorial Day, troopers have arrested 328 people for driving under the influence. Each of those arrests could have been unnecessary if the driver had planned a sober ride.

“Whether Labor Day Weekend means a long-weekend getaway, a trip to the lake, going to a game, visiting the Fair, or staying close to home, everyone has a part to play in keeping Nebraska roadways safe. Buckle up, watch your speed, put your phone down, and always drive sober. Let’s end the summer travel season with a safe weekend across Nebraska,” said Colonel Waugh.

This effort is made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
