Troopers Ready as Husker Gameday Returns to Lincoln

Nebraska State Patrol

October 2, 2026 (Lincoln, NEB.)  —  The Huskers return home to Memorial Stadium after last week’s road win and troopers will be teaming up with public safety partners to help fans make winning decisions on the road to Saturday’s game in Lincoln.

With assistance from the NSP Aviation Support Unit, troopers will be working to keep roadways safe. Fans should be prepared for traffic congestion as they get closer to downtown Lincoln. NSP also encourages fans to check Nebraska 511 or Waze for the latest information on construction zones and any potential detours that may become necessary. Fans can hear traffic reports from Trooper Brett before and after the game on Huskers Radio Network.

NDOT traffic plans are the same this week as the first three homes games of the season. All Lincoln I-80 interchanges are available for fans arriving from the east or west. Fans coming from the east are encouraged to use the exits prior to Interstate 180 because of construction heading into downtown.

Troopers work closely with partner agencies on several aspects of gameday operations. Troopers partner with the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, UNL Police Department, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation to keep fans safe as they travel to and from the game, as well as in and around Memorial Stadium.

Inside the stadium, fans can text UNLPD at 402-472-0800 to reach stadium dispatch if they need assistance. Anyone in need of assistance can also contact any trooper, officer, deputy, security, or event staff at the game.

Before and after the game troopers will be on patrol to ensure fans get to and from their destinations safely. Anyone who observes a reckless driver or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance can call *55 to reach the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline. NSP’s portion of this effort is made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
