Kearney, Neb. – The fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team hit .318 and had 10 different players register a kill to sweep York (-13, -14, -14) Tuesday night at Buckle Court.
The Lopers (20-1) pushed their win streak to 20 while the Panthers remain 7-13 as this was an exhibition match for them per NAIA rules. The win streak is tied for the ninth longest in school history and marks the seventh win streak of at least 20 in the Rick Squiers era (1999-present).
Using different lineups and rotations throughout, the Blue & Gold was paced offensively by freshmen Taryn Arbuthnot (Sumner) and Madeline Lamb (Omaha Westside) who had seven kills apiece. They combined to hit .392 with junior middle Celia Spilker (Cortland) at five kills and two others at four apiece.
Next, Arbuthnot had a team-best eight digs with Lamb and junior DS Rhyan Mock (Stilwell, Kan.) at six apiece. Arbuthnot, Mock and senior Ellie Spang (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) rotated in the libero spot tonight. At the net, Spilker had three blocks with sophomore middle Megan Leedle (Germantown, Wisc.) at two. Finally, Mock, freshman setter Ellie Eckman (Lincoln SW) and freshman DS Mia Brenner (Kansas City) each served up two aces.
The Panthers were led by Florencia Felmer (six kill, three digs, two blocks) and Jassania Joseph (five kills, three blocks)
UNK returns to Maryville, Mo., this weekend to face 18th-raned Emporia State and Central Missouri. These are non-con matches in the MIAA’s new scheduling format (12 league matches; three non-con’s).
