UNK Wrestling: #7 Lopers Rally Past #18 Wolves to Have Perfect Day

Kearney, Neb. – The seventh-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team used three straight wins to rally past 18th-ranked Northern State, 24-21, Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.

UNK went 3-0 in the annual Younes Hospitality Duals as they blasted MIAA associate member Ouachita (Ark.) Baptist, 45-3, and Maryville (Mo.), 38-3, to start the day while some Loper reserves easily got past reserves from NSU, 41-3, and Central Oklahoma, 36-6.

The NSU Wolves were up 21-11 after three bonus point victories in the middle weights. However, the Loper heavy hitters were up next and two-time All-American Billy Higgins (Omaha Skutt) recorded a 21-4 win at 184-pounds, fifth-ranked Jackson Kinsella (Creston, Ia.) used a to win 4-1 at 197 with second-ranked heavy weight Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) mashing Nathan Schauer, 17-1, thanks to three takedowns and a first-period 3-point near fall.

Against the MU Saints from St. Louis, redshirt sophomore Drew Arnold (Blue Springs) used a 4-point second period near fall to upset 10th-ranked Evan Binder, 6-1, at 133 pounds. Additionally, Higgins had a fall in only 49 seconds with sixth-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) having one in 2:09 to start the dual. Finally, UNK had an unprecedented six tech falls against OBU while the reserves had eight bonus point wins to beat NSU and UCO.

The Lopers head to 19th-ranked Central Missouri next Saturday night.
