UNK Wrestling: Lopers Shut Out Hays

UNK D2 50 Years

Kearney, Neb. – Redshirt sophomore Jackson Kinsella had another big win as seventh-ranked Nebraska Kearney blanked Fort Hays State, 43-0, Friday night in Kansas.

The Lopers (18-3, 4-0) have won 12 straight heading into next Friday's home showdown with top-ranked Central Oklahoma.

To beat the Tigers (4-5, 3-1) for the 15th straight time, UNK had one fall, four tech falls and three majors. However, it was Kinsella (Creston, Ia.) who had the highlight win as he bested 10th-ranked Tereus Henry, 5-4, at 197-pounds. Coming off a win over the NAIA defending national champ, the eighth-ranked Kinsella needed two third period escapes and a late takedown to win for an eighth straight time.

At 149-pounds, senior John Burger (New Milford, N.J.) used a first-period takedown, three escapes and riding time to edge Marcell Dely, 7-6. UNK dominated the other eight matches with nationally-ranked heavyweight Crew Howard (Clarinda, Ia.) having a fall in 1:54 and redshirt sophomore Hector Serratos (Wichita) managing a 17-0 tech fall in 4:26. His night featured 11-near fall points.

The UCO dual will begin at 7 p.m.
