US-6 detour, Hastings Southeast project
Sept. 18, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting, on Monday, Sept. 21, U.S. Highway 6 (US-6) will be detoured onto Showboat Avenue / J Street, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
During this time, the newly constructed roundabout at South Street and Elm Avenue will be opened to the north and west. Access to local businesses will be maintained to the south of the roundabout. Construction will continue to the east of the roundabout to 1st Avenue, as well as from B Street to the curve near J Street. Access to Good Samaritan Village will be maintained though D Street.
Work includes grading, storm sewer, concrete paving and lighting. Work will take approximately 6-10 weeks. Expect traffic delays in the area.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
