Vikings Go 2-1 At Home Tournament

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest softball team would go 2-1 at their home tournament on Saturday at the Vets Complex. Northwest would fall to Waverly in the opening game 11-5. The Viking would then bounce back vs Aurora, 12-0, and then defeat York 2-0. 

Northwest is now 15-2 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday, September 24th at Lincoln Standing Bear. Listen live on 103.1 FM & 1031kjcountry. The Pump & Pantry Pregame Show will start at 6:15 pm. 

Waverly would win the tournament on Saturday. After defeating Northwest, Waverly would then defeat Centura-Central Valley (16-6) 11-4, and then defeat Gretna (16-5) 10-2. 

Game 1 
Waverly  11 Runs - 15 Hits - 2 Errors 
Northwest 5 Runs - 9 Hits - 2 Errors 

Naleah Baier drove in four on one hit, but Northwest Varsity Vikings fell to Waverly Varsity Vikings 11-5 on Saturday. 
Waverly Varsity Vikings opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three home runs. Waverly Varsity Vikings first got on the board when Amira Diaz hit a solo home run to center field.
Waverly Varsity Vikings scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the third inning. Luci Thieman singled, scoring one run, Reagan Glassburner doubled, scoring two runs, Ella Riley singled, scoring two runs, and Diaz singled, scoring one run.
Northwest Varsity Vikings scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Addie Burbach doubled, scoring one run, and Baier hit a grand slam to right field.
Addison Angle earned the win for Waverly Varsity Vikings. The starter gave up nine hits and five runs (zero earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one.
Abby Dinkelman led Northwest Varsity Vikings with three hits in four at bats. Dinkelman stole two bases. Northwest Varsity Vikings turned two double plays in the game.
Waverly Varsity Vikings accumulated 15 hits in the game. Diaz led Waverly Varsity Vikings with three runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Eva Tucker led Waverly Varsity Vikings with three hits in four at bats. Glassburner, Thieman, and Angle each collected multiple hits for Waverly Varsity Vikings. Waverly Varsity Vikings turned one double play in the game.

Northwest Varsity Vikings won big over Aurora Varsity Huskies 12-0 on Saturday.
Northwest Varsity Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Abby Dinkelman tripled to right field, Becca Dinkelman singled to center field, Graclyn Simmons singled down the right field line, Karstyn Zuelow singled to center field, Lexi Ross doubled down the right field line, and Haper Wissing singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Northwest Varsity Vikings added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Addie Burbach tripled down the left field line, Ross singled down the right field line, Naleah Baier doubled to center field, Dinkelman singled to center field, Dinkelman doubled to center field, and Zuelow singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Simmons earned the win for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The starter surrendered zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking one. Violet Carstensen took the loss for Aurora Varsity Huskies. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs on 14 hits, striking out none and walking three.
Northwest Varsity Vikings tallied 14 hits in the game. Dinkelman, Dinkelman, Burbach, Zuelow, and Ross each collected two hits for Northwest Varsity Vikings. Dinkelman, Dinkelman, Zuelow, and Ross each drove in two runs for Northwest Varsity Vikings. Northwest Varsity Vikings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Zuelow made the most plays with seven.
Aurora Varsity Huskies were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Vivi Fahrnbruch had the most chances in the field with four.

York 0 Runs - 2 Hits - 0 Errors 
Northwest 2 Runs - 5 Hits - 1 Error

Northwest Varsity Vikings took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 2-0 walk-off victory over York Varsity Dukes. The game was tied at zero in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored two runs.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Northwest Varsity Vikings pitchers struck out eight, while York Varsity Dukes sat down five.
Graclyn Simmons earned the win for Northwest Varsity Vikings. The pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Kynlee Westwood took the loss for York Varsity Dukes. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing two runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking none.
Simmons went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Northwest Varsity Vikings in hits.
Ayanna Miller and Makayla Snider were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for York Varsity Dukes.
