Walk to End Alzheimer's Set for October 11th in GI

[GRAND ISLAND, Neb., July 24, 2026] – The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Grand Island residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, October 11 at Amur Plaza in Grand Island.

Runza Restaurants® is returning as a statewide sponsor of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Nebraska.

“For me, this is personal. I lost my dad, Don Everett Sr., the founder of Runza, to younger-onset Alzheimer’s, and it changed our lives forever. But this is a pivotal moment. On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Nebraska, there are more than 35,100 people living with the disease and 42,000 caregivers.
