Weller Throws Complete Game; Cats Snap Skid

St. Paul/Palmer warming up vs Twin River/Osceola
St. Paul/Palmer warming up vs Twin River/Osceola

The St. Paul/Palmer Cats were in action Tuesday on the road against the Twin River/Osceola Titans. The game was initially scheduled to be played in Genoa, however due to a water main break the game was moved to Osceola.

After a scoreless first inning the Cat Bats came alive starting with a Jadyn Thomsen single. Thomsen took second on a passed ball then advanced to third base on a fielder's choice. Layne Baker scored the first run of the game with a first pitch single to left scoring Thomsen to make it 1-0. Carter Hawley followed suit with a single of his own and with one out, the Cats loaded the bases after Zandyn Weller down 0-2 in the count worked his way into a walk. Christian Lemburg emptied the bases for St. Paul/Palmer with a three run double to left-center to make it 4-0. The Cats picked up insurance with an Alex Meinecke single scoring Lemburg ending the inning at 5-0.

Zandyn Weller was steady on the hill for the St. Paul/Palmer working his way through the order even at one point retiring eight straight TItans. Even when the senior got into situations his defense backed him up. In the bottom of the first a leadoff single by Twin River was quickly negated as a 1-3-4 Pickoff resulted in an out. Another key defensive play came in the bottom of the second inning as Mason Hoppes snagged a line drive in right field and doubled up Colston Rodriguez at second base for a 9-6 double play.

The Cats added more insurance in the sixth on a Braxton Heater RBI single scoring Christian Lemburg. The only offense for Twin River came in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice and an RBI single to make it 6-2. The Cats in the 7th got one run back on a Carter Hawley single that chased the Titan Pitcher. St. Paul Palmer sealed the game on a single to Centerfield when Mason Majerus threw out the runner at third by a scarlet mile giving the Cats a 7-2 win snapping a three game losing skid.

Zandyn Weller gets the complete game victory throwing 7 strikeouts on 84 pitches. The Complete Game gives Zandyn Runza MVP Honors while Mason Hoppes takes the Dugout Grill Dang Good Play Of the Game with his 9-6 double play in the second.

St. Paul/Palmer now at 5-7 on the year, has the rest of the week off and will be back in action on Tuesday at Central City/Centura. The Cats will play four games in a seven day period. Our next broadcast on 97-3 the Wolf will be April 23rd at Fairbury. Our coverage begins at 4:30 P.M.
