Wildcats Sweep Gibbon in Season Opener.

The St. Paul Wildcats started their respective seasons off with impressive victories over the Gibbon Buffaloes 60-30 on the Girl's Side and the Boys not to be outdone won their opener 60-29.

In Girl's action despite a small roster St. Paul jumped out to a big lead behind Charlee Wegner, Zaya Lewis, and Aubree Fitzgerald en route to a 19-7 lead through the first quarter. The 2nd quarter saw Gibbon close the gap but St. Paul outscored the Buffs 14-10 to take a 33-17 lead at the break. The Cats got into foul trouble in the 2nd half with 4 of 5 starters sitting at 4 fouls apiece. The Wildcats never let Gibbon back into the game controlling the 2nd half 27-13 on their way to a 60-30 victory for their first of the season.

Charlee Wegner earned Runza MVP of the game with 19 points in the victory.

The Boys took an early 12-6 six lead behind Joel Schafer erupting for 7 points in the first frame. Turning up the pressure in the 2nd quarter the Cats applied the pressure to Gibbon building a 15-6 2nd quarter to take a 27-12 lead into halftime. Gage Sack paced the Cats with 10 points in each half as the Cats outscored Gibbon 33-17 to take the 60-29 W. 

Sack with his 20 points took home the Victory and Runza MVP of the game.

St. Paul returns to action on Saturday 12/7 at Doniphan-Trumbull. Opening tips are set for 3:30 and 5pm on Country 96.
