Wilson Named Punter of the Week
For the second straight day, Nebraska punter Archie Wilson was honored, as he was named by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award as the Week Nine Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week on Tuesday.
Wilson was originally chosen as one of Ray’s 8 for the week on Monday, as the organization chooses one of the eight punters as their Punter of the Week.
Wilson averaged 49.8 net yards per punt on five punts last Saturday’s game against Washington, placing four inside the UW 20-yard line. All five punts went at least 40 yards, including kicks of 59 and 60 yards, while none of the kicks were returned.
Wilson is 21st nationally and third in the Big Ten in punting with an average of 45.1 yards per kick and has placed 14 of his 31 punts inside the opponent 20-yard line. He has helped Nebraska rank 12th nationally in net punting at 43.4 yards per kick, while the Huskers are 17th nationally in punt return defense. In all, just four of Wilson’s 31 punts have been returned this season.
The Huskers are in action this Friday, Nov. 6, as the Huskers travel to Illinois. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be carried on FOX and the Husker Sports Network.
