Work is underway on US-183
May 20, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Construction is underway on U.S. Highway 183 (US-183), from reference post 50.21 to reference post 64.5 in Buffalo County, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Vontz Paving, Inc., of Hastings, is the prime contractor for the project. Work includes grading, culvert improvements, erosion control, guardrail improvements, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, milling, asphalt overlays, shoulder widening, and seeding.
Traffic will be maintained using Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFADs) and a pilot vehicle during grading and asphalt paving operations. During phased bridge construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled with temporary traffic signals. A 10-foot or 12-foot width restriction will be in effect during bridge operations. Antiicipated completetion is spring 2027.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, buckle up, and put phones down.
