Work will begin in Thayer and Hamilton counties

April 30, 2025 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work will begin May 5 on Interstate 80 (I-80) at reference post 318+17 and U.S. Highway 81 (US-81) at reference post 6+50, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Watts Electric Company, of Waverly, is the contractor for the project. Work includes removal of eight high mast towers and placement of 14 new high mast towers.
Traffic will be maintained with temporary traffic controls and signs. Anticipated completion is July 2025.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
