Work will begin on US-81 inn Stromsburg

April 4, 2025 (Grand Island, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work will begin on April 14 on U.S. Highway 81 (US-81) in Stromsburg, from reference post 78.24 to reference post 79.12, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Van Kirk Sand & Gravel, Inc., of Sutton, is the contractor for this project. Work will include concrete paving, storm sewer construction, lighting and permanent pavement marking.
Northbound traffic will be detoured to N-69 and N-66. Southbound traffic will be maintained with lane shifts and lane restrictions throughout the project. There will be an 11-foot width restriction in place during construction. Anticipated completion is Oct. 2025.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
