York Walks Off Northwest, 4-3

(York, NE) - A walk-off left Northwest on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to York on Monday at York Ballpark Complex. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored one run for the Dukes.

This was the 2nd time in three days that the two teams had played each other. Northwest defeated the Dukes on Saturday at the Northwest tournament, 1-0. 

Northwest lost despite out-hitting York six to two. Haper Wissing, Graclyn Simmons, Lauren Jones, Abby Dinkelman, Taylynn Taylor, and Lexi Ross each collected one hit for Northwest.

Northwest opened the scoring in the first after Simmons singled, scoring one run.

York took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ayanna Miller homered to center field, scoring two runs, to give York the lead, 2-1.

York committed an error, which helped Northwest tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.

An error gave Northwest the lead, 3-2, in the top of the eighth.

York captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the eighth after Addy Kadavy grounded into a fielder's choice, and Northwest committed an error, each scoring one run.

Kynlee Westwood earned the win for York. The hurler allowed six hits and three runs (one earned) over eight innings, striking out five and walking three. Simmons took the loss for Northwest. The pitcher went seven and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out 16 and walking five.

Simmons led Northwest with one run batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Dinkelman stole two bases.

Miller and Westwood each collected one hit for York. Miller went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Westwood paced York with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. York turned two double plays in the game.
